Utsav was opened in 2000 by Emiko Kothari, a restaurateur based in Tokyo. This is her only U.S. location and is managed by her granddaughter Nandita Khanna. Utsav, a word with origins in Sanskrit, means Festival. India, a land of many regions and cultures has an abudance of festivals to celebrate. Each Utsav in India is an explosion of colors, sounds and rituals climaxing with a sumptuous feast that highlights the conclusion of that festival.

 

Consulting Chef - Hari Nayak

Hari started his journey as a chef and author in India before joining the very prestigious Culinary Institute of America, New York in 1998. Thereafter, he continued to build his knowledge and skills under the guidance of renowned chefs in New York City. Hari is the author of widely acclaimed “Modern Indian Cooking” which has given a new dimension to Indian food. It was named one of the best books of the season by LA times in 2007. His signature cookbook “My Indian Kitchen” is filled with recipes for preparing delicious Indian meals without fear or fuss. Hari, an author of 5 books is globally known as one of the pioneers of modern Indian cuisine.At Utsav, Hari introduces some of his dishes that fuse the flavors of India with his signature modern New York twist. His goal is to change the way you perceive and experience Indian cuisine.

 

Consulting Sommelier - Rajat Parr

Rajat began his wine career as an apprentice to one of the industry’s most acclaimed master sommeliers, Larry Stone at Rubicon in San Francisco. There, he worked closely with Larry to gain extensive knowledge of great wines from around the world and developed affection for the wines of Burgundy. Rajat is one of the James Beard award-winning authors of the book “Secrets of the Sommeliers: How to Think and Drink Like the World’s Top Wine Professionals” At 42 years old, Rajat is an ardent wine educator who has led seminars and panel discussions at several of the United States’ most prestigious food and wine gatherings.
